Why You Should Join

If you want to help make a difference in the world, particularly for those needing our help, then Rotary could be just what you could be looking for. And if you want to enjoy fellowship with like-minded people you should definitely come and meet us.

Our activities are very widespread. We raise funds to support Rotary International Foundation in their quest to eradicate polio throughout the world, a Rotary project considered so worthwhile by Bill Gates that his Foundation has pledged $200million to Rotary with the challenge that we match it – and we are already more than half-way there! Internationally we also send Shelter Boxes to disaster areas around the world and raise funds for Water Aid.

Locally we put on events for young people such as Young Chef, Young Musician and Public Speaking. We sponsor candidates for Rotary Young Leaders weekends. We take a team to a weekend Disabled Sports Championships and treat all the children of Paternoster School to a “Kids Out” day in June every year. We have a Conservation Working Party and there are many other projects that you could get involved in.

The fellowship comes through working together on projects, enjoying social events and getting together for our weekly meetings. We run a varied programme and each month we have two short 6.15pm “tea” meetings a month and two dinner meetings, to one of which we invite our partners and other guests.

It costs just Ł25 to join Rotary and the annual subscription is currently Ł80. We are also invited to make an annual contribution to Rotary Foundation. A monthly standing order of Ł17 covers our two meetings and our members’ dinner. We all pay for dinner when we attend the monthly guest dinners.
